Sri Lanka Embassy celebrates International Women’s Day hosting a President Award ceremony to a Girl Scout

Marking the International Women’s Day the Embassy of Sri Lanka in France organized a President’s Award ceremony to a Girl Scout in line with the theme for 2022 announced by the International Women’s Day website as “Break the Bias” on 08.03.2022 in Paris. The Sri Lankan Girl Scout Ms. Suvekha Pakkiyarajah currently living in Paris who studied at the Vincent Girls High National School, Batticaloa was one of the 700 Scouts who achieved the President’s Award. As a student who came to France for her higher studies has not been able to attend the President’s Award Parchment ceremony headed by Chief Scout his Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapakse on 23.02.2022 in Sri Lanka, hence the Sri Lanka Embassy in Paris symbolized the occasion and arranged an awarding ceremony inside the Embassy premises highlighting the importance of appreciating a young girl’s achievement who is among the Sri Lankan Community living in France. Mr. Amila E. Dissanayake, Third Secretary of the Embassy and also being a Rover Scout welcomed the guests highlighting the importance of organizing the event to appreciate the young girl’s achievement as a Scout followed by taking the Scout Oath from the Scout herself. The Embassy organized the ceremony enabling Suvekha to receive the President Scout honour by the hands of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka Prof Kshanika Hirimburegama. The award was presented in the presence of President Scout Suvekha’s family, teachers’ and well-wishers from Sri Lanka and France. Invitees, Senior Scouts and colleagues representing the Sri Lanka Scouts Association were connected to the event which was live streamed via Zoom. Mr.Janaprith Fernando, Chief Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scout Association, Mr.L. Srilath R.M.De Silva, Assistant Chief Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scout Association and Mr. V. Pratheepan, Batticaloa-District Commissioner addressed the gathering via Zoom. President scout Suvekha thanked the Sri Lanka Embassy for organizing the event and the Sri Lanka Scouts Association for guiding her throughout her achievements. An Appreciation award was presented to President Scout Suvekha by the Rego Scouters Guild and the event was concluded by Mr. Chula Rathnayake, First Secretary of the Embassy delivering the vote of thanks in Tamil.
