ATTESTATION OF DOCUMENTS

Applications for attestation of documents can be submitted to the Embassy. However, if such documents have been issued by any authorities in Sri Lanka, these should be certified by the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo with respective seals and signature(s).

Before submitting the request to the Embassy, any document issued by foreign countries should be countersigned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country or by the diplomatic representative of the country in which such document has been issued.

The Embassy only authenticates the seal and signature of the officer who had legalised such document and not the contents of the document. In the absence of such certification, the document would not be accepted for attestation.

The following documents are not attested: Letters/documents regarding obtention of visas, deeds/titles, bank statements, appointment letters, defamatory documents.

 

TRANSLATION OF DOCUMENTS

Only original documents issued by the Government of Sri Lanka and authenticated by the Consular Division of the Ministry of External Affairs in Sri Lanka will be translated by the Embassy.

Only the documents that are in Sinhala, Tamil, English and French are translated.

 

POWER OF ATTORNEY /SWORN AFFIDAVIT

Where an affidavit/Power of Attorney is required for submission to a Court of Law in Sri Lanka or any other legal institution or matters related to legal implications, the applicant should obtain the affidavit/Power of Attorney from a lawyer in Sri Lanka and bring such affidavit to the Embassy along with the following documents that will be signed in the presence of a diplomatic officer at the Embassy;

  1. Affidavit/ Power of Attorney prepared by a lawyer
  2. Applicant's valid passport (Original should be submitted along with a photo copy)
  3. National Identity Card
  4. Sri Lankan immigrant Resident permit (Original should be submitted along with a photo copy)
  5. Signatures of two witnesses holding valid Sri Lankan immigrant Resident permits (Originals should be submitted along with photo copies)
  6. Relevant Fee

 

CERTIFICATION OF DRIVING LICENSE

The Embassy accepts applications to certify driving licenses issued by the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) in Sri Lanka. Applications are forwarded to the Department of Motor Traffic in Sri Lanka for certification. Once the verification is received it will be legalised and issued to the applicant.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

  1. Self Explanatory letter addressed to the DMT Commissioner with the reason for certification
  2. Original driving license with two photocopies
  3. Valid Sri Lankan Travel document
  4. National Identity Card
  5. Resident permit
  6. Relevant fee

If the applicant directly obtains verification from the Department of Motor Traffic, it should be attested by the Consular Division of the Ministry of External Affairs in Sri Lanka in order to be legalized by the Embassy.

 

POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE

Applications for police clearance can be forwarded to the Police headquarters in Colombo by the Embassy.

Sri Lankan nationals living abroad may submit their request for a police clearance certificate directly to the Inspector-General of Police, Police Headquarters, Colombo 01, Sri Lanka if they wish to do so. In such cases the Police Clearance Certificate would be sent directly to the applicant.

  1. Duly completed application form
  2. Original Sri Lankan travel document with two photocopies of the data page
  3. Proof of residence
  4. Relevant fee

ATTESTATION OF PENSION RECEIPTS/ LIFE CERTIFICATE

Sri Lankan Pensioners living in France or accredited countries should present themselves personally at the Embassy or at Sri Lankan Honorary Consulates in Portugal or Spain in order to obtain life certificate or attestation for pension receipt.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  1. Dully completed Pension Receipt
  2. Valid Sri Lankan Travel Document
  3. Documents to prove the eligibility to live in France
  4. Pensioner's Identity Card issued by the Director, Department of Pensions in Colombo

 

REPATRIATION OF SRI LANKANS STRANDED OVERSEAS

Sri Lankan nationals stranded abroad are assisted by the Embassy to be repatriated to Sri Lanka.
